Dilkusha Girls Home

We have been visiting and supporting Dilkusha Girls Home annually by working on the home itself, repainting the outside, renovating the kitchen, up grading the dormitories, re-established the library and established an after school class room for the girls, up graded the office and computer systems and repainted outside of Deaconess home, built kitchen gardens and arranged for removal of rubbish off site by the truck loads and a very memorabile outing to Suva Park for a picnic around the playground area. We have hosted in our home in Australia Deaconess Olovia and on another two occasions girls from the home while they were on exchange programs to Australia.

2020

We provided 2 sewing machines to Dilkusha Home and worked to establish a sewing teacher to visit the home weekly to teach the girls craft and sewing shopping bags from upcycled fabric from second hand stores. Fiji had just banned plastic shopping bags from stores and the need for reusable bags I thought would be a no brainer of an idea.

Unfortunately, with the girls busy school commitments and I was not in Fiji to help these classes, this initiative didn’t rise to our expectations.

Always thinking of how to help the women and girls of Fiji I got inspiration from other women around the globe helping women and girls similar to Fiji by sewing reusable cloth sanitary pads.

I started myself producing pads and giving them to friends to sample and getting their feedback. … giving me inspiration to start “Earth Sisters Fiji” “Thanks Laurentine Ten Bosch” for suggesting this great name for our project… and head to professionally manufactures to produce our range of reusable cloth sanitary pads, incontinence pad, drying straps and various carry pouches.
